Just ordered a Adcom GFA-7605 amp! It will be added to my RX-V1400. It will send 175watts @ 4ohms all 5-channels driven.

I am so stoked!

It will be here thursday!

Cool Beans, I had an Adcom 535II and a GFA 7300 5x60 into 8ohms. It was a beast, however when I got my Denon it's amp section sounded better then the Adcom. I hope the one you are getting sounds better then the 5 channel one that I had. I always wanted a 555II back in the early 90's that was a great sounding amp. Adcom stuff is built like a tank.

I have the 2803, and it sounded a lot better then my adcom GFA-7300 which really, really surprised me because I was planning on just using the Denon as preamp/processor. I did not expect a receiver to sound better then a highly regarded separate amp. I was amazed, and then I sold the adcom to a friend. I hope yours is better, and I know it will sound better then the yamaha. I really have never liked the sound of their amps. Let the flaming begin

I like the sound pretty good. I am just hoping for a more detailed and powerful soundstage. I feel the speakers are needing more.

I don't know the specs on your particular amp or speakers, but one could possibly bi-amp (bridge) power to the mains using 4 of the channels, and use the remaining one to push the center alone. Hence, the surround side/back channels could still be pushed by the 1400. To do this, the amp itself must be built in a way permitting this option. Just some food for thought...

best,

My speakers are 4ohm. They have a sensitivity of 87dB. The power range is 110-180. The new amp is rated @ 175 x 5 into 4ohms (all channels driven.) I believe this should be a perfect match.
Bi-amping would be too much strain on either end!

You can almost never have too much "clean" power, especially for speakers rated at 87db. Bi-amping can actually allow one to get the most (performance) out of both the amp and the speakers attatched to it. Given that they are both designed to be implemented in this way.

I had to read it again to see what you were saying. Use the amp by itself to drive the mains (bi-amped) and center, and use my 1400 for surround. OH BOY! It just keeps getting better!

I thought you were saying to basically bi-wire mains & surround on the amp, and to put the center on my 1400. That is why I brought up the fact that the speakers were 4ohm.

"bi-wire"...

Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

I would never suggest "bi-wiring". Just get lower gauge wire and call it a day!

My mains & surrounds are the same. Both towers. Don't you think I would get the most benifit & best total sound by only using the new amp. As I stated, my speakers have a max peak power of 180. My amp states,"175watts x 5 CONTINUOUS @ 4ohms ALL CHANNELS DRIVEN 20-20k." I believe that means PEAK is even more. Correct?

Amp is here. Man that was quick! I am on my way out to pick-up some cables from Radio Shack. Amp does not take banana plugs, so I have to pick-up some spade connectors also. I should have it going sometime tonight!

Cool stuff, let us know how it sounds compared to the yammy. It's gonna beat up on it I already know that. Hey in addition the NAD 2600 that I reaquired from my friend, I also got back my old Adcom 535 II. It is blowing the AC line fuse, sounds like it's shorting somewhere or one of the transformers went. Anyway I called Adcom and they said for $175 they would refurb the thing back to factory specs. I gonna do it too because I also got my old GTP 400 preamp back as well and that would make a great bedroom system. For $125 they said they would refurb the preamp as well.

Just got back with cables. I went with AR. Even the gold at Radio Shack looked cheap. The AR stuff is nice and cost less than the Radio Shack stuff. Way cheaper than the Tara Labs I have been using!

Even though the manual states to use spades, I am going with my banana plugs. They fit right in there.

Got it going. It was sounding the same until I opened up my Yamaha manual and read how to set the output. I had to turn speakers A off, go into manual set-up & sellect ZONE SET. Then I had to sellect SP B----FRONT.

Words can not explain what I heard next. It is a thing of beauty!

I must go enjoy. I want to thank everyone for all of the advice & knowledge!
