Lowes 6AWG For Speaker Cable

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions about using 6 AWG. I am currently using it with a Consonance A120 Hybrid Integrated, CD120 and a pair of Eric 3 speakers biwired. Do I need to biwire and if so should the runs be seperated by at least a inch or more? I have read this wire may not work as well with all speakers? I heard about these from a friend that had them wired to a pair of Vonschweikert DB99's he now uses a pair of $2500 Verbatim's (because he can) but said the 6AWG was the second best cables he tried. He read about them on Bound For Sound. Any thoughts would be appreciated Thanks!

That size is a waste of money, the only time a cable makes a difference is when you have the wrong gauge compared to distance other than that cables make no difference. 10 gauge is as big as you need.

6ga may work if you're wiring your speakers a quarter mile away. You'd want a pretty massive amp in that case.

serious overkill, well into the useless range.

Once you go lower than 12 gauge or so for normal houselold runs, it's more for the belief that it's making a difference rather than the fact.

When did facts get in the way of audiophiles :D

Has anyone read about this on Bound For Sound? Here is the system they are using them with. Why aren't they using smaller guage wire if it makes no difference, the 6AWG is a pain to work with! Can this wire sound as good as expensive wire? Do hi and low wires need to be seperated when biwiring?

What's in the BIG RIG? (June 20, 2005)

The components listed herein are not so designated because they are, or are not, the basis for a Bound for Sound reference system. Nothing so profound or meaningful is intended. Instead, the products listed below are those that happen (by design or serendipity) to be in the Big Rig on the date above - it could change the next day (and sometime it does).

What this page does is let you see what's being auditioned at a given point in time, and therefore know what components are likely to be reviewed in upcoming issues. And as for reference pieces, the more times you see it here, the more likely yours truly feels it to be of special merit.

Unless your cables are made wrong, expensive wire and cheap wire will not sound any different. Bi-wiring is also kind of a waste of time, as it only reduces the resistance of the speaker cables going to the speaker. That said, if you're using 10ga wire anyway, then it's really a moot point. I would recommend that you save yourself the hassle and just get some high-quality 10ga speaker wire, like some Belden 5T00UP or Sound King 10ga wire. If you feel the need to buy some *BLING BLING* cables and drop some coin, then check out Cobalt Cable's offerings. They won't sound any different, just cost you more money and look pretty.

That about sums it up
(Edit::: Whoa, and I thought I was crazy for 10awg for the fronts and center at a 10 foot lenght, mainly for stereo)

Bound for sound is no different from Stereopile, a mag for ones imaginations. :D
They follow the crowd to please, certainly not based in facts.

Actually it's the 12 ga. that sells the best :D and we don't sell below 10 ga. except for special orders.
