Dvds and Bluray discs, the volumes are all the same where I have to turn the volume up to around 40 to hear the dialogue. I don't have any speakers just the tv speakers when watching a tv program I only need to turn it to max 20. The settings on my samsung bluray player are the Digital Output : PCM(I have picked this currently), Bitstream(unprocessed), Bitstream (Re-encoded DTS), Bitstream(Re-encoded Dolby Digital)
PCM Downsampling is On
Dynamic Range Control is Auto and other options are on or off
Downmixing Mode is Normal stereo and other option is Surround Compatible
So I dont think it is my tv that is causing this problem because I have played music and mp4 video files (around 120kpbs) on the bluray player and they have way better audio than the discs.

The issue is dynamic range. DVD's and BD discs have much more dynamic range, that your other sources, so the average level will be lower.

If you have a new slim TV, then I have to tell you that the TV speakers are not there to be used. They are just there to say they have them. The speakers are puny and face the wall.

So, you need a sound bar, or receiver with its own set of speakers. That latter is the best.

In my view with all this slim lining of TVs, the only control on a TV that you ever really use should be the on off switch. I have three screens and since they have been set up, the only control I use on the TV is off and on, that is all. That gives the best results.

Bottom line, peripherals and a TV no longer do the job satisfactorily.
