You can probably just go into speaker settings and increase volume a little. Have you set volume and distances on the other speakers, or done any auto setup if that model has that?

Surrounds aren't supposed to be at the same level as front L/R/C channels....or are you saying your surrounds are especially low? Some surround gear will have a multi-ch stereo mode that would send same signal to both front and surround L/R speakers and a mixed signal to the center....I don't like that mode for regular music listening but some do....

You mean the Surround Speaker Trim Levels (speaker channel levels) are just too low even when you increase them?

My Denon AVP-A1HDCI had the same issue, but it was with all the channels, not just the surround channels.

Sounds like you might need a new AVR.

Many speakers will work. Depends on what you want to do.

Are all channels level matched with an spl meter and test tone?

The HK 20 MK II was the same electrical design as the Sherwood 5030 selected as the best AV component in 1995.. Now 24 years later something may have gone bad internally, try adjusting the L/R surround channel trim controls if no improvement then time for a new AVR...

Just my $0.02... ;)
