Low volume dialogue output

My 5.1 system works pretty dam good, not high end by any means but we really like it. I have one issue that I cannot figure out. When dialogue such as a ref calling a penalty on the field, or with some recorded music the volume is very faint. It’s like it’s not coming from the center channel at all. Commenters, hosts, narrators, the stereo all sound normal.
equipment: Yamaha RX-V385, Sony XBR-650X850F, center channel is a Klipsch R-52C, Polk T50 L/R.

I'd think that's not your system particularly but the broadcast's audio. Music wouldn't particularly come from a center channel....what sound mode are you using?

When you are watching something like Football, change the audio output on your set to PCM.

You will see that the feeds from OTA channels will say 5.1, but a Football game is most certainly not 5.1 by nature.
By the time that audio signal goes through all the routes, god knows what it ends up sounding like.
Better to just upmix from PCM 2.0.

I will try that, kinda figured it was something like that. Thanks for the insight.
