low power

I have pioneer VCX-72TXV as a home theater receiver. The receiver is connceted to Definitive Technology speakers; two BP7002, one C/L/R 3000, and two BPX speakers. My home theater is 14 feet by 24 feet and about 8 feet high. When I turn on the system, somehow I am not satisfied with the amount of power it is generating. I know it is loud, but it is not that loud. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Is the receiver underpowering the speakers? Could I connect an amplifier to the system? Your suggestions would be appreciated.

How far are you pushing the master volume control? You should be able to turn it up to 0dB without a problem. In a room that size, it should be deafening. The receiver has plenty of power, but you can add an amp if you want. The DTs are some pretty clean sounding speakers, so while the volume may be loud it may not sound loud.

You don’t mention a sub. The DTs have the powered bass, but they don’t compare to the visceral impact of a good stand-alone true subwoofer.
