Hello everybody,

Let me preface my question by saying i'm new to this. I recently bought an onkyo 605 and cerwin vega 5.1 surround sound speakers (my first time buying either a receiver or speakers). Ran audyssey but it doesn't detect the subwoofer. The speakers emit plenty of sound during the test but the subwoofer outputs very little. You can barely hear it. Did some research and found that the speakers need to be set to "small" but i cannot find any configuration in the menu to make such a change. In the speaker configuration i have the speakers set to 80HZ, subwoofer "yes", LPF 120HZ. Also set the LPF to 150Hz on the back of the subwoofer. What the hell am I doing wrong.

Audyssey 2EQ function can measure the number of
speakers connected, their sizes, crossover frequencies,
and the distance from each speaker to the listening position
and calculate the optimal speaker settings for your
listening environment automatically.

from page 51
less than 6, set the minimum speaker impedance to 4
ohms (not North American models).
If you’ve connected your front speakers to the FRONT
and SURR BACK terminal posts for bi-amping, you
must change the Speaker Type setting. For hookup information,
see “Bi-amping the Front Speakers” on page 21.

Speaker Settings
If you change these settings, you must run the automatic
speaker setup again (see page 41).

If the impedance of any speaker is 4 ohms or more but
less than 6, set the minimum speaker impedance to 4
ohms (not North American models).
If you’ve connected your front speakers to the FRONT
and SURR BACK terminal posts for bi-amping, you
must change the Speaker Type setting. For hookup information,
see “Bi-amping the Front Speakers” on page 21.
Notes:
• When bi-amping is used, the AV receiver/AV amplifier
is able to drive up to 5.1 speakers in the main
room.
• Before you change these settings, turn down the volume

Onkyos don't use the "Small/Large" setting, just the independent X-over settings. You're on the right track with your settings. The volume/gain control on the sub should be set at the 9-12 o'clock position. You may need to bump up the sub gain in the receiver (Pg 73) so that the sub gets a strong enough signal. Sometimes it's easier, and educational, to set up the system manually.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm starting to think i've got a defective/blown sub. I gave up on audyssey and tried tweaking the settings manually but i'm still getting next to nothing from it.

Do you have a test disc with say 40 to 60 Hz tones? If you do, connect a cable to a pre out, if you have them, and send the signal to the sub. If you hear the tone loud and clear the sub is fine, and your FFE out is either not properly configured or defective. If you don't get a good sound from your sub it is defective.
