Low audio over PC movies

Hi,

This is quite possibly entirely the wrong site to ask this question, but I thought I'd give it a shot. Basically I use my PC to play DVD, avi, mpeg, etc movies which I send to my TV by S-Video. Well, for the most part, my 5.1 system performs perfectly, that is, as expected.

So anyhow, about 25% of the movies etc I try to play has extremely low audio. This is not a channel issue, I'm pretty versed on my windows and sound card software and speaker setup so plz don't advise me to check my volume! hehe...

I should say that this occurs even with proper retail DvDs about 25% of the time as well as videos from the internet. I thought this might be a codec issue, but I know very little about codecs and althought I've tried a few 'all-in-one' codec packs, I havn't been able to resolve the issue. Normal windows sounds, games, and other applications have no audio volume issues.

At first I thought this was just a problem with a few of the movies I've downloaded, but since this occurs with some retail dvds, I'm at a loss.

Can anyone shed some light on this and offer some suggestions?

Thanks!

Well I figured it out already!

For anyone having this issue, it is likely caused by a low gain get in AC3 filter settings (found in control panel if you've got it)... By default, audio that uses this filter is set rather low, so its just a matter of increasing the gain.

Some newer versions will launch a menu in your system tray so you can adjust it on the fly.

Thanks to anyone who was going to try to help! lol
