Ok so i am starting research for my second sound system. i have already decided on an svs sub(1100$), and i am looking for a good pair of loudspeakers to go with it within about 2000$ price range. another consideration would be the reciever.. i dont really know what to get. would a 300$ denon work? or is that skimping for the said system?
thx in advance

One thing about subs is that they blend well with whatever you combine
them with. I've heard ultras with top dollar M&K's, Klipcsh, Artison's and they
all sound seemless. As for a reciever, don't skimp.

yes do not skimp on receiver. look for speakers you like first then match the

receiver. is it for music or HDTV. what size room. what kind of music. what kind of room. plaster or brick. carpet or hardwood or tile. floor standing or bookshelf. is there a waf? then we can help you. also look on audigon.com get used or demo you will save 50% so you could look at 4000.00 of speakers. same with receiver. also is best if you can demo the speakers. each ear perceives differently than another.

ok so if yall do not suggest kepping my 300$ denon reciever then i will have to take some budget money out of my speakers and sub to buy a new one. i will be using the system for music alot of movies and later on for hdtv. im looking at a 3000-3500$ budget for all the sound equiptment, and i will also be purchasing a projector and such.

A grand for one speaker most likely is going to require some decent power - unless you're looking at Klipsch Reference towers. If I were spending $2000 on a pair of speakers, I'd probably complement them with at least a Pioneer Elite 74 or Denon 3806 receiver. If the speakers are inefficient, you may even want to add a separate power amp. So yes, $300 is skimping. ;)

BH,

The pc and pb ultras are supposed to sound the same from what I've heard from others.

A friend up the road a piece has a pcultra in a 15'x30" room with vaulted
ceilings and opening upinto the living room. The ultra being about 12' away to
the left of mains in a corner, he's on a raised foundation and gets plenty of
vibration through the floor. I must say it's feels/sounds pretty damn good!!!
BTW, he's running 3 M&K S-150 across the front and 4 SS-150 MK II.

Me on the other hand have a PB2ultra (original name and sub design) or PB12-
Ultra/2 as it called now. My room is 15'x25' with vaulted ceilings with large
openings into the kitchen (12'x22'), living (14'x30'/dining room (12'x14'') and a
hallway. I'm on a slab, the sub being 3' behind the seating area on a
gramma riser and get no vibration from the floor.

I't hard to compare since these set ups are like comparing apples and
oranges, but I tend to like my bass better (of course) because I get no floor
resonance. May be getting a pcultra for another room soon and will do a
side-by-side comparison once that happens.

A Yamaha 2500 can be found for $700 or less.

You say $1100 for the sub.

So, step down to the Paradigm Studio 60's.

Or Monitor Audio RS8's: http://www.monitoraudiousa.com/products/silver/rs_series/rs8.htm

If it were me, I would go with a speaker in this pricerange, and spend more on the receiver and sub. You will yield a better end result, I believe.

A) What kind of music do you listen to?

B) What does your listening room look like? How far out from the wall can the speakers be placed?

i havnt decided what room to use for my ht yet so that is irrelevant, i will make it work. i listen to alot of rap, classic rock, i basically enjoy any music but i REALLY REALLY enjoy bass. another thing is they will see heavy movie use after i get my projector.
