Loudspeaker recommendations for my NAD 7020

Yes, I just purchased a vintage NAD 7020 analog receiver and I'm a bit unsure what loudspeaker would be a good match for it. Presently I have what I believe are 8" Yamaha 2 way loudspeakers, and while they arnt bad, they arnt that great either. I've been looking on ebay and there are alot of theater set-ups I could buy, but that seems it might be a bit over-kill not to mention I'm afraid alot of those type set-ups might end up sounding a little bit thin and flat, and, I dont believe I have enough channels to have that many speakers anyway. I am on a budget, hmmmm, probably 250.00 - 300.00 max new or used. As far as sound I like very clear clean crisp highs and deep thundering bass, and of course nice flat mids to help balance it out. Can someone give me some recommendtions perhaps or point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

Jeff

P.S. Anyone have a Carver receiver, and a set of Martin Logans I can have?

Just Kidding :p

If you want clean crisp highs AND a deep bass then your budget is far too low. I would start with some good clean bookshelves and add a sub later. Any stand alone speakers, with good mid, and HF neutrality and a good bass response are going to cost several times your budget.

There really is no such thing as a "match" between speakers and amplifiers except for impedance and efficiency issues. In your case, the amp is suitable for any speakers. I would get whatever you like best that is within your budget. I like TLS's recommendation. My experience with the subwoofer/satellite arrangement is pretty positive.

Those look pretty good, I'll have to look into those for sure...but what about these, I'm sure they will go up in price, but as of this writing they are well with my price range ($210.00), I found them on ebay.

Magnepan MagnePlanar MG-I Ribbon Loudspeakers.

Well, I choose those because the nicest loudspeakers I've ever heard were vintage (although new 20 years ago when I heard them) Carver Amazings and I litterally had to drag my jaw behind me while walking out of the store because it was still on the floor I was so amazed. Then about 8 years ago I heard these Sonys that didnt have a driver, they were in a traditional box, but the drivers were flat and honeycomb shaped, I thought they sounded pretty nice.

I just found a site w w w.soundadviceblog . com/?p=1017 with pictures of the loudspeakers you recommended and I must say, I'm pretty impressed, theres a fairly good chance I might just buy those, I really like them. Thank you.

DCM TL type speakers were some excellent products in the day, and Ive owned 2 pairs, the last being the cx27 dual 6 1/2 mids and a coaial mounted tweeter.

Yes, your right, and your right again about the Magnepans, I just dont think my poor little reciever will drive them properly, the review I read recommends a minimum of 85 watts per channel into 4 ohms for the Magnepans, my little NAD I think has an average power output of 20watts per channel average, 40 watts max at 8 ohms.

Would the DCM TL 400's be good, these are the specs on them.

Sensitivity: 92db 1w/1m
Usable power range: 5 watts min to 150 watts max
Impendance: 6ohms nominal
Frequency range: 40Hz-20khz
Enclosure type: transmission line with rear-firing port
Drivers: 2X6.5" magnetically shield woofers, 1X.75" soft dome tweeter
