Loudspeaker Cables !?!?!?

Hey there. I am a neophyte to this game. I started my HT today! The face of the Beast is a Samsung HLS6187W DLP 1080p 61" TV, with a Pioneer Elite DV-46AV DVD/SACD Player. The roar of the Monster is provided by the Pioneer VSX80TVX Elite AV Receiver. I will be using Axiom's Epic 50-175 7.1 Home Theater Speaker Package. Now I have read quite a bit about speaker wires. I bought 100' (I have a pretty big room) of Liberty Wire's Ultra Cap 14 AWG THX Certified Cable @ $1.65 per. I thought it was a good deal, but do I really need this severe a cable (it's pretty thick stuff)? Also, and please don't laugh, but I read somewhere that wire is "directional" (must flow from amp to speakers). Truth, or smoke up the Giggy? Thanks!

The wire should work fine, and directional speaker cables are just hype. There are some supposed directional audiocables that are supposed to eliminate Ground Loops, but I have seen no difference.

Welcome.

Speaker cable is not directional. Musical signal is AC current, which by definition is non-directional. As for the cable, I find that somewhat pricey, but some of the nice, thick cable that is still flexible commands a higher price than the 25 cent per foot belden stuff that you can bend into figures. However, I suggest that you purchase another 100 feet of speaker cable. I used over 100 feet in an 11x14 room with a 5.1 setup. It's always better to have some spare cable that you can throw in the garage than to get half done and realize that you're SOL.
