Can some one please explain the terminology what it means?? I read back a while that Onkyo, and Integra amps can damage your speakers while doing DTS master bitstreaming, I think streaming is another word for listening? So are they saying when you are changing listening modes with your remote, and the red leters show up, "DTS", that is when it could pop(gun Shot) sound and damage your speaker system. I know when I first turn on my Integra and It is in the TV or CD select mode the DTS is on. I like to explain this to the people where I bought my 7.8 Integra, but not sure if I understand what is happening??Thanks!

A 'bit stream' is as its name implies - a stream of bits. When you set a dvd player or other device to bitstream it just reads the data (bits) off the disc and sends them unaltered to the receiver. The 'streaming' part is the transport of those bits, in a serial fashion (one after another like a single file line), to the receiver in real time. The receiver looks at the bit stream to determine the format of the audio, whether it be Dolby Digital, DTS, PCM or whatever and chooses the proper decoder to interpret the bitstream.

Because the bitstream is encoded (DD/DTS are lossy compression schemes - like MP3 but a different encoding) it is meaningless until it is decoded. So if you were playing a CD (PCM) and then suddenly switched to DTS the receiver will momentarily see a bunch of numbers it doesn't yet recognize and will continue to convert them to analog and amplify them - amplifying meaningless numbers results in noise.

Well that explains it nicely. Got my first amp & speakers, Tape deck, TEAK, (quadraphonic), back in the early 70s, so you can see why I am lost in the woods with all the great advancements in Audio. But I miss my reel to reel! You can have alot of fun with it making your own recordings adding tracks on top of tracks.
Putting what you said into common use, When listening to CDs and changing listening modes like NEO6, to DolbyII, and with the TV since I have subscribed to HD, I noticed that if I change from a normal channel to a HD channel the receiver changes to a HD select mode automatically, at this time could this damaging pop occur? Thanks for you help your knowlege is impressive. Should I have bought a Denon?
