Lost Linear PCM on my PS3 (only bitstream works!)

Hi Everyone,

I've been a fan and frequent reader of Audioholics for years and now I'm turning to forum in no small amount of desperation!

First things first here's the rundown on the equipment: Sony PS3 (60GB "Fat") connected via HDMI to my Integra DTR-7.8 which is then connected to a Sharp Aquos 52" LCD (LC-52D92U). The Integra is power a Triad in-wall 5.1 speaker system.

The problem: For the past two years that I've had this system set up I have been using the PS3 for Blu-ray/DVD playback as well as playing a few games. The entire time is has been set up in the default "Linear PCM" audio mode and the receiver recognizing that output and PCM multi-channel. About 3 weeks ago I sat down to watch "G.I. Joe" on Blu-ray. When I played the disk I wasn't getting any audio through the system. I started to dig around and when I enabled "bitstream" in the PS3 audio output settings the sound came blasting through - the Integra displayed "DTS". I finished the movie and returned the settings to "Linear PCM" on the PS3, dismissing it as a trip to the "Blu-ray audio format Twilight Zone".

Now (w/ PS3 set to "Linear PCM") I have no audio in the PS3 menus, PS3 games like Singstar and Dirt also have no audio, and finally no audio from Blu-ray/DVD. The DTR-7.8 shows "PCM multi-channel" as it always has but no sound in any of the listening modes.

Linear PCM now equals NO SOUND!

If I switch the PS3 to "Bitstream" I can get audio on Blu-rays and DVDs but that's it. No sound from the menus or games.

I have tried resetting the PS (holding the on switch for 2 beeps to run the connection auto-detect) and I've also updated the PS3 system to 3.15.

I sure would like to recover the ability to listen to the linear PCM tracks. I appreciate any help or insights.
