lost a channel on my 2500?

my yamaha rxv-2500 has recently quit outputting sound to the rear left speaker, i'm using it in a 5.1 configuration, if i play the test tones it'll make noise, but if i play anything through it, it's dead, anyone know what could be the problem?

p.s. scratch that, it will play in every mode EXCEPT 7 channel stereo, no other channels have this problem

If you have a 5.1 configuration, the rear speakers shouldn't play in 7 channel stereo mode because they do not exist. Or am I missing something?

What I suspect is the real problem is that you have a mismatch between the speaker terminals to which the speakers are connected and the setup menu where you tell the receiver which speakers you have. In a 5.1 configuration you should tell the receiver the surround speakers are present and the rear surround are not and then make sure the speakers are connected to the surround speaker terminals and not the rear surround speaker terminals.

i've already done the ypao thingy, and the reciever figured out it only has five speakers, in the 7 channel stereo mode they used to all work, and now the right rear still works, but the left rear quit a couple days ago, i thought it was a loose wire on a terminal or something, but i rewired it today and it didn't do the trick.
