Losing Voice Audio When Playing Blu Rays

I have a Marantz SR6006 and an Oppo BDP-103 in my upstairs system. Both are roughly 4 years old.

Recently, when I played a Blu Ray the sound had almost no voice content (it switched on and off). The non-human sounds seemed to be close to normal. I suspect I'm losing the center channel but I have not actually checked this.

Blu Rays always played back with no problems previously, and the sound is fine when watching TV from the satellite signal. It's only when I play Blu Rays.

The Marantz seems to make some "switching" noises during playback (the same noise it makes when it is turned on) randomly, and the sound (voices) comes on and off randomly (mostly off, unfortunately)

My downstairs system also has a Marantz SR6006 and an Oppo BDP-103. When I pop the same Blu Ray into the downstairs system it plays back fine.

Any ideas? Is there a setting in one of the components that could be causing this? I'm planning to switch over to a 4K system in the not-to-distant future, so I'm thinking about just replacing the SR6006 unless there's a simple fix.

As you have 2 systems with same player first thing I would do is swap those players and see what happens after that in both systems.

The switching noises suggest that the center channel is going into protection. The first thing I would do is check that center channel wiring very carefully for 'whiskers" in the speaker lead, both ends.

I just tried another Blu Ray, and it played fine for the first 45 minutes or so, then started switching on and off. The Receiver and the Blu Ray player are in a relatively confined space, which makes me wonder if it might be related to overheating.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try swapping out the players and checking the wiring also.

After it started switching on and off, I turned the Blu Ray player off for about 20 minutes to let it cool. When I turned it back on, it played though to the end of the movie without a problem. I'm starting to think it's an overheating issue.

Confined space is always a very bad thing. You need to correct it.
