The Lord of the Rings Blu-ray Set for April (Update)
Posted December 14, 2009 03:28 AM by Juan Calonge

New Line Home Entertainment, in conjunction with Warner Home Video, will release 'The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy' on Blu-ray on April 6, 2010. Release details are largely unchanged from those revealed early in the year (see blu-ray.com, June 24). The nine-disc box set will contain the theatrical versions of the movies, along with more than seven hours of special features (on three regular DVDs), digital copies for each film, and previews for the extended versions of the films (which will come out on Blu-ray "at a later date").

A week later, Warner Home Video will release the 1978 animated version of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic.

That's what I was thinking would happen as well since they had pulled the date, but looks like that was wishful thinking.

I've waited too damn long. I can't possibly help but double dip, I am afraid. It may depend on the price, we will see.

On the bright side, I was actually surprised by the news. Even as the TE, I think this still might be too good to be true.

Something tells me another delay will be involved. grrr

That's great news...but if they're releasing it on BluRay, why not just come out with the extended editions.

Anyways....I'm waiting for the EEs

Hey at least they want to take their time. I'd prefer that over a rushed junk transfer.
