Looks like my TV has an issue too...

I guess it's the season...

I have two dots on my screen about 8 " apart. It's a DLP so clearly it's not a dead pixel. They appear white when the TV is on.

Could it be dust on the bulb or something? If so.. what's the best way to deal with it? I'm assuming I don't want to use compressed air or something like that.

It actually could be the DLP chip beginning to fail. It usually starts out with a couple spots and gradually increases until it is unwatchable. We have had several Samsung, Mitsubishi, and Toshiba DLPs come through our service department with the same symtom.

Uh oh. Is there anyway I can check to see if it's something simple like dust? I"ve never really dusted the tv beyond just wiping it down. We had our fireplace going nonstop for a few days when he had a coldsnap and I'm just wondering... hoping really... that some ash or something somehow got on the lamp.

I was gonna buy a new TV, but decided on a some new firearms instead. Totally serves me right I guess. As least I can shoot the thing with several different weapons.

Just did a little more looking. You're absolutely correct. It's not dust. It's a widespread problem with the Texas Instruments mirrors getting stuck.

What a bunch of ****. 3 years life for a modern TV. What a racket. It just pisses me off that they get away with **** like this. Oh well. I'll just get that 70" Aquos I've been eyeing once I get annoyed enough.

Yeah, it blows. I've got many old CRT tvs that are still working perfectly fine...unfortunately I have no use for them :/

My neighbor is a fairly high end attorney. Maybe I'll have him write some letters or help me sue them in small claims court. he loves stuff like this.

Maybe that's what I'll do... just sue them for a couple grand in small claims court and call it a day

You should at least contact Mitsubishi. They are very good at helping people out even out of warranty. I work for a service center and we deal with a lot of Mitsubishi sets but Mitsubishi is amazingly responsive.

Unfortunately rear projection sets have turned out to be among the least reliable sets out there by a large margin. The DLP chip problem is more recent. I believe the problems started right around the time Texas Instruments was no longer the sole producer of DLP chips and third parties started manufacturing them.

Well each day now brings a new dot. I have about 8 or so now. I haven't watched TV for about 4 days or so, been busy here at the office. But I turned it on last night and was completely annoyed, as it my daughter.

I should have some time to call them today. I'm sure I'll have dig out my paperwork (though I know I won't find it). We'll see how this goes.

I'm still geared to go with the 70 Aquos LED, but am trying to think of a way I can make the 80" fit in the room.

I have been lurking for a few weeks so I might as well join and post.

I have a Samsung 56" DLP that started showing white dots a few weeks ago. They have been multiplying on what seems to be a daily basis.

I called Samsung yesterday and they scheduled a service visit and it looks like they are going to replace the DLP chip free of charge this coming Tuesday.

My advice to anyone with this white spot issue on your DLP is to call the manufacturer's help line with all of your information (model # and serial # etc.) and see what they will do.

The folks at Samsung were very helpful and it looks like I will get it fixed for free even though it is out of warranty.
