Looking to upgrade TV: CRT vs. newer technologies

This is my first post in the television section as I've got my audio pretty much put to bed, but now I want a better tv. I'm using an old 27", non-flat screen JVC from 1998. While this tv still looks fantastic, I'm wanting two things: hd and a larger viewing screen for movies. I don't want too much bigger as I'm still an apartment-hopper, so I'm thinking anything in the 32"-42" range should be good.

I'm posting b/c I have a very limited budget...$1500-$2000 max. I've been reading and I've seen a lot of things that seem to get me thinking that if I want the best bang for my buck, CRT televisions are still the way to go for picture quality...not to mention what sort of plasma/dlp/lcd tv I could get for $2000 or less. I'm really hesitant about a CRT b/c again, I'm an apartment-hopper, so moving is always looming in the future...plasmas and others are very easy to move...but large CRT's can weigh over 200 lbs!

So, my question is, where can I start looking for a nice HD tv, in that size range?...And, if CRT is the way to go for really good picture quality, does anyone know of any that don't tip the scales too much? For instance, I've seen similar size televisions that can have a weight difference of 60 lbs. That's pretty significant when you're climing 3 or 4 flights of stairs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Panasonic is discontinuing its CRT TVs this year, but you can still get screaming deals on their 32" and 36" sets: the only problem is that the 32" is a chunky monkey, nevermind the 36" Two friends of mine each bought Toshiba rear projection HDTVs (46" letterboxes), and the sets are comparatively light with very good picture quality, but the quality still isn't as good as the tube, IMHO.

Bryan...don't know what I'd get myself...
