current sunfire only swicthes and processes audio, looking to upgrade to get video swicthing and upscaling if possible. 7.1 is a must but would like to have up to 11.1 if at all possible..for future.

was considering mcintosh mx-123 but huge price tag. looking for recommendations on other options…looking for processor with xlr output for connecting to amplifier and sub also.

thanks,
Chubbz

Yeah, $8K is pricy for an AVP.

Less expensive options would be a Marantz AV7706, Marantz AV8805A, and others from Anthem, NAD, Monoprice. Yamaha currently doesn’t have an AVP.

A client of mine also owns all Sunfire AVP + Amps, and he replaced his Sunfire with the Marantz AV8805A.

Check out Yamaha RX-A8A it does 11.2.or Denon's 6700H, both 2K less.

Sounds like he has descent amplification so suggesting a AVR is not productive. I would look at Anthem AVM 70, Marantz AV8805, Monolith HTP-1 to name a few.

What do you mean by "not productive"? :D

You mean that the OP absolutely wants an AVP, absolutely not an AVR, so recommending an AVR (RESISTANCE) is futile? :D

How is it not productive..? Lots of people use an avr for processing.

I recommend two solid options. Saving around 2K or more plus the Denon has 2.1 ready out the box if it's needed now. OP should consider All options.

Ok, that is true. But I think most(not all) of them started with the receiver and added better amplification later on....
Plus, he wants xlr outputs which is not common on AVRs

I think Yamaha is the only brand I know of who makes AVR (RX-A6, RX-A8) with XLR Inputs and Outputs, but it's only for the Main Front L/R channels.

Oh I get your point, kinda like, a lil off topic but I'm gonna opt for a pair of the new RBH 6500's that'll be coming out this year the Red ones:D over Polk's Reserve 700's. Why, when Shady J did a fantastic review with really good results on Polk's R700's? RBH has 2 midrange driver's instead of just one mid-range driver that the R700 has.

Hey I got to see those, sort of a sneak peak, when I was there demoing the 831R and 663Rs. Very nice looking speaker

My Son, has the RBH Elite towers. Very detailed speaker. Pretty much can't go wrong with RBH..for a few dollars more.;)
