I am looking to buy these speakers, I have been an admirer of British and Canadian mfrs for their pure research and keen ability to improvise on their existing designs. I am putting these head-head against the Energy CF-70.
Also looking to complete the surround with additional smaller speakers.

Any reviews, experiences appreciated. I will be hooking to my Yamaha mid level receiver. I listen to music more than watching movies.

They are in two very different price brackets...the CF-70 msrp is $1000/pr, but they often go on sale for as little as $400/pr. The Q900 msrp is $1600/pr and generally sell for that price unless you go with the open box deals on accessories4less for $1140/pr.

Thanks, I did the research on price KEF's are at 700-800$ but are easily achievable in about $550-600. I was strictly sticking to the audio quality comparison between the two. The Energy are part of the Connis.. series. I have owned speakers of the Conn..series before and was extremely happy.

The only reason Energy's run a bit cheap NOW for the sound they reproduce is because Klipsch(parent) do not want to promote them vs their own tag.

Also keeping in mind KEF speakers have a slight upcharge due to their heritage and being UK base.

So what is the take on pure sound quality? Would I be wrong in shelling $600 for KEF's? I read a lot on the bass factor, do KEFs run low on bass?

I've not heard the KEFs, but based on the reviews and measurements I'm sure their sound quality and overall capability is outstanding.

Unfortunately I have not heard the CF line of speakers or seen any measurements. I am sure they are decent enough but I do not think they would fare as well as the Q900s. I do like Energy speakers in general - I've got RC-50s, RC-10s, an RC-LCR, and CB-5s.

For the last month, all acudeftech guy has been telling us, is how in the latest issue of stereophile, Kal Rubinson called the Q900s the best speakers under $2000, and how John Atkinson's measurements were excellent

:D

Damn straight. :D

I need to save a Word Doc so I can just copy and paste! :D

Well, I have not heard the Q900, but I own the KEF 201/2 speakers.

And yes, Stereophile (John Atkinson/Kal Rubinson) and Home Theater Magazine have reviewed the Q900.

All three guys praised the Q900.

But how often do you see critics say they hate a speaker?

They always try to remain neutral.

It's when they go out of their ways and actually highly praise the speakers that catches my attention.

Kal Rubinson pretty much says the Q900 is best in the $2K class.

John Atkinson says the Q900 has SUPERB SPEAKER MEASUREMENTS regardless of price.

You don't see John Atkinson say this about 90% of the speakers he measures, even the ones that cost $20,000 or $50,000!

I believe the Q900 will sound accurate and energetic, as opposed to "lifeless" or "dead sounding" or "colored" speakers.
