So i have just ordered the OPPO BD83 DVD player and i am now thinking of upgrading my sub to a much better one.
So far i have been looking at the SVS PB-13 Ultra and the HSU ULS-15.
I want to know if there are any other brands that i should be looking at and considering to buy.
Thanks

How much room do you have and what is your budget?

You have a good start with SVS & HSU just add Elemental Designs, Danley, JTR and there is one more I just can't think of:rolleyes:.

With a 2K budget you may want to look at a pair The ED A7S-450's are $850 each and are 18" woofers with a 1300 watt amp.:D

Do you have a limit on the physical size of the sub or a wife that may have issues with a big black box?

Umm... I personally don't have a limit on the physical size of the sub, but yes i have a wife.. she shouldn't have a problem either!

I know.:D These are sealed subs so they take significanly more power than ported units. I've never heard one but here is a review - Link.

Hmm. Where did you find your wife? I have a friend here named Adam...:)

At 2 k, I think you can do even better than the ULS or the PB13. At their price point they are fantastic subs, but for a few hundred more, you can top those.

For a single sub solution, I would go with a Seaton Submersive, although it is somewhat more expensive than a PB13, at $1995, however many comparisons have been made it it is reputed to be a substantially better sub by people who have owned both. This thing is a monster, you should do so reading about it.

For a more even sound field, you should go dual subs, I think this is a better idea for a dedicated home theater room, depending on how spread out the seating is. For that I would consider two Elemental Designs A7S-450s. If you buy two, they are only $800 a piece instead of $850. If you stretch your budget by just a little bit, something else you should consider is the P7-650, at $2100, also by ED.

Epik also makes fantastic subs, and two Dragons ($999 each) would dominate you, and probably give you greater performance than the ULS or SVS subs. That system would rock you so hard. If I had 2 k to outfit a home theater with subs, just thinking about double dragons would put a grin on my face.

With your $2k budget you have alot of options...however I would not redomend the ULS-15 if you are just looking at one. The measured THD on a single ULS-15 was suprising to me---I will try to find the link to that review, which stated that the dual-drive ULS-15 system is really the place to start if you want to go HSU -- but that is a little above your budget.

With $2k I would go either SVS PB13 Ultra, dual Epik Dragons (as suggested already), or the Seaton which is supposed to be a beast. Or if you are tecnically inclined and wanted to do a DIY project you could get an insanely sick system -- maybe dual 12" LMS Ultras -- have a cabinet maker build two sealed and finished boxes -- with a couple of Crown (Behringer...plenty of choices on good amps) amps and a DCX-2496. This could be done for just above $2k and you would need a new foundation after watching movies....

If a few of us can agree on 1 kind of sub, its going to be easier for me to make a decision.

I really don't think you will go wrong with any of your choices, they are all fine pieces of equipment. Go with whatever suits your budget, and asthetic needs.
