I hope I'm asking this in the correct forum, anyway I'm not exactly sure how to ask this question since I am nt at all tech savvy, but I'll list my components.....

1)Display... Samung ln t4681f HDTV
2)cable box...explorer 8300hd
3)computer... video card is ati 4870x2...sound card is creative soundblaster x-fi titanium fatal1ty pro .
4)ps3
5)xbox 360
6)speakers...definitive tech 5.1 with sub not exactly sure model#
7)receiver not sure what to get yet...only have $600 doller budget.

I want to hook everything up to my surround sound receiver/speakers and get the best sound while watching blurays/dvd's, gaming.. computer or console and normal cable tv viewing.
What receiver will I need, cables ect and will this be easy to setup?

In any case, in the "Beginners and Audiophytes" forum there's a thread entitled just for these situations titled "Need basic advice? Check here first"

Apparantly you missed this. Here's your chance to correct that oversight.

Likewise, there's a whole "AV University" section available from the main page of this site.

You might want to avail yourself of these first and then ask more specific questions.

In any case, you might want to become familiar with your owner's manuals. These can be the source of untold knowledge. Not everyone is familiar with all equipment and the onus just may fall back on your reading these.

Likewise, PS3 , Xbox, cables and video/sound cards have been discussed frequently. You might want to become familiar with the "search" function to dig up some threads on these.

Actually, there's a separate "cables and interconnects" forum. Did you read any of the posts there?

I would try to get a receiver that upconverts from composite and/or component to HDMI.

Here are some choices that are close to your $600 budget.

Yamaha RX-663 as low as $362

Onkyo TX-SR606 as low as $349

You can go to higher level models, but these are the minimum I would buy becuase they offer video upconverting. This will allow you to conenct devcies via a variety of means.
