Whats up guys newbe here I am looking for a new surround sound system. right now i have a 6 year old setup with a 6.1 jbl (180s or something like that) and a sony de-598 receiver and i hate it im not sure if its the speakers or the receiver but when i listen to my music loud it just gives me a headache. so i have been looking in to the onkyo 5400 and maybe even the next one up. i have been reading the reviews and a lot of them talk about the hdmi cutting out anyone have and experience with this also would it be better to buy speakers/receiver separately any advice woulld be greatly appreciated. btw i like my movies loud and my music louder thanks guys

Hi. I would start with a good receiver. The Marantz SR6005:

MARANTZ SR6005 110w X 7ch 3-D Home Theater Surround Receiver | Accessories4less

Might be one option worth considering.

i would like to be in the 300-600 dollar range
So would I, but I don't see you being ultimately satisfied.

The next step is to get front speakers that can play loud cleanly. The EMP e55ti:

EMP Tek Tower Speakers

are one such speaker. Check out their clearance section for a bit of a discount on B-Stocks.

The final step is to deaden the room a bit so that when you're playing loud, the room is not overloading your brain with energy. It'd start with well placed rugs and couches of course. In my opinion these speakers do want a bit of treatment too but don't overdo that aspect either. Just don't have bare walls everywhere.

thanks for the response i like the receiver but if I go out and buy another pair of loud speakers my wife will kill me. so now im thinking maybe i will break out my old DCM loudspeakers and get that receiver or i may jusat get the onkyo 5400 too many decisions but i think any setup i go with will be better then my jbl/sony setup thanks again
