Looking for some advice...

Happy Holidays all!! I have been doing some research and the more I look, the more people say that a HTIB is not the way to go. So...I have been looking for deals and what not and how best to go about piecing my system together. I currently live in an apartment so, for the sake of neighbors, I don't need a sub. I have found a receiver, Onkyo TX-SR607, which Newegg.com has on sale ATM for $369.00. The speakers I am going to start with are tSc's LCR3-P fronts that are currently $89.00 and out of stock. I have a round about budget of $600. I know that this doesn't eat up my entire budget, but if I'm missing something or should go another route, any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

1. What do you plan on running with your new setup?
2. Do you want sound level or sound quality? Without a bigger budget, they're somewhat mutually exclusive.
3. Do you have any personal preferences? Colors, companies, aesthetics.
4. Do you want this system to have growth potential, or will it be plug-and-done?

Your current ideas look good to me, but who knows, based on the above there might be better options.

Right now this setup is for my living room. In the room I have a Samsung 56" DLP, PS3 and Direct TV. If I can get some great sound quality, then that's the route I would like to take. It doesn't have to be so loud that I'm waking up the neighbors. Preferences, not really. I have been leaning more toward Onkyo or Yamaha for the receiver though. Color has to be black as everything else in the room is black. I would like for this system to have some growth potential. Eventually I will move from this apartment in to a house and would like to be able to add surround or larger fronts and a sub in the future.

1st off welcome .Second I would recommend getting an AVR that has pre amp outs so like you said, you can futureproof your system.Most AVR'S are black so you should not have an issue there.Is your budget for avr and speakers or just speakers?

Um...isn't the Onkyo I stated above an AVR? I am trying to budget for a receiver and speakers, if possible.

Yes, but the Onkyo you mentioned does not have pre-amp outs on the back. (I'm neither agreeing nor disagreeing with the statement that you should get pre-amp outs, merely clarifying the previous poster's point).

If the AVR has the features you want, and the speakers have the sound you want, enjoy

Both Jamie andJerry are mentioning Pre-outs, because it allows you to add external amplifier/s to provide more power if needed.

Speakers are the most important. For a budget of $600 I would not worry about preouts, because to get an AVR with preouts you will eat up most of if not all of your $600 budget.

The Onkyo you selected is good, but it only leaves $231 for speakers. Speakers alone should be at least half of your budget.

A posible solution is Cambridge Audio S-30 speakers ( $199 /pair) or Behringer Truth 2030P (JerryLove prefers , $150/pair). The Cambridge are much better asthetically looking. Then add a inexpensive, but good, Dayton SUB-120HT subwoofer for $155.

So for just a little more $$ you can get a reasonable system.

Thanks a bunch guys. The speakers that you recommended look great and are the equivalent, if not better, than the ones I found on tSc. As for the pre-outs, I'm not too worries about that ATM. Once I move in to a bigger place then I will look in to getting another AVR w/ pre-outs. Looks like I'll be piecing this together for Christmas. Happy Holidays!!
