Hi everyone,
I stumbled here from a google search with the query "bedroom stereo system."
I am simply looking to hang four speakers from the four corners of my bedroom and somehow connect them to my iPod. It seems like a simple matter but I have no idea where to start. I am a comlpete novice about audio and video matters. I am not looking to spend much. I just want to hear my music from every corner. Also, I don't need a CD player or AM/FM tuner. I am looking to connect four speakers to my iPod. Anyways, I would appreciate any advice or even just a point in the right direction.
Thanks a lot :)

The output of an iPod is a headphone jack which is very low level. If you use a dock, you can get line-level but that is still very low (it's the level sent by any source device connected to a receiver or amplifier). So in essence you need an amplifier of some sort.

The easiest solution is a low priced receiver. With 4 speakers you'd be better off getting a surround receiver that can support multiple speakers. You could use a stereo receiver but it would likely require a speaker selector so that 4 speakers wired in parallel wouldn't present too low of an impedance for the receiver to adequately handle. At relatively low volumes, a simple stereo receiver with A and B speaker terminals could work with one pair wired to terminals A and one pair wired to terminals B with the switch set to A+B.

Let's consider stereo, shall we?

A vintage (read: old and cheap from a garage sale, friend, relative or the like) receiver or integrated ampllifier that has at least one "aux" input and outputs for two pairs of stereo speakers (Speaker A & B) should suffice.

That, and a plain old 1/8" stereo mini-plug to RCA adapter cable to connect the Ipod device to an "aux" input on the receiver and you're all set.

(psssst... I've also found these in dollar stores and they work just fine)

Oh, you'll also need four speakers and the necessary wiring. but you knew that, didn't you?
