Looking for suggestions for installer of DLP projector in Houston home. The two people I've spoken to like to waste a lot of time. Curious to see who would be recommended and why. Both I've talked to are CEDIA members.

What do you mean by waste allot of time? Are they giving you the runaroud or is it something else?
A good installer will be meticulous about the install because
#1 The install becomes a potential showroom for referral business #2 Most very good installer's pick and choose the installs they want to do usually based on clients attitudes, condition of the home and the equipment that is to be installed

Please take what RLA says to heart. He's a pro installer and knows of what he speaks. Re: CEDIA installers: Try contacting CEDIA directly at

www.CEDIA.net

Their site will show you many more members in your area with more indepth listings of individuals' certifications within the companies.

Keep getting runaround

If you had to choose the latest greatest quietest DLP projector under $10K what would be the best for a screen 87"X46" that is approx. 12 feet away from the lift that drops down aproximately 30".

Not knowing what the lighting conditions are in the room I will assume you have some light control? What kind of time line are you talking about? Now or can you wait a few months? There were several new projectors that I viewed at CES that would meet your criteria but I have not installed them yet or had the chance to review them so I am hesitant to give you a recommendation based on that. Here are the candidates of the new crop at CES

Optoma H-79 This projector was well represented at the CES and should street at your budget. This projector was one of the best sub $15,000 Image
At CES, IMOHO

Infocus 7210 another very nice projector same as the 7205 but with the new dark chip 3.This will meet your budget (throw and drop distance may be an issue)

Of the current crop
You may be able to obtain a Yamaha DPX-1100 for under $10k because they are being replaced by the new 1200.The 1100 is very quite and will meet your install criteria

Optoma H-77 is very quite and produces a nice image (its a little dated)
Should meet your install criteria

Infocus 7205 Bright, High contrast very good optics and Faroudja processing
Reasonably quite (throw and drop may not meet your install criteria)

Throw and drop distance calculator available at
www.infocus.com

There may be other projectors out there that meet your expectations and budget
