Looking for help on combined systems

A/V Receiver / DVD / CD player combo?

I've never looked into home theatre before, really because I've never felt the need, but recently I realised that when I go to University in October I'd like to have an all-in-one system that can do all the stuff I want with the minimal amount of hassle.

To that end, I'd like to know how it is possible to achieve the following setup:

I'd like an A/V receiver, with an AMP, as well as a DVD/CD player. So this thing would input/output signals from various audio and video sources, as well as playing DVDs and CDs.

Second, I would like my computer to input both sound and video into this receiver.

Finally, I'd like a television hooked up to the receiver that takes the audio and video from DVDs, as well as the video from the PC so that it can be used as a second monitor. I'd like the audio from CDs to play only through the speakers though.

Point to note: I'm NOT an audiophile. I only want 2.1 sound at the most, mainly because I don't care to have more speakers than are necessary, because I like simplicity, and because I won't have lots of room to put this stuff. I don't need fantastic sound quality either, because I really can't tell the difference, and don't care to try. I was ideally looking to hook all of this up for under £500, which should be possible given my lack of need for a high quality system.

Thanks in advance for all the help. Any suggestions you guys can make will be really helpful.

I'm a newb, but it sounds like to me you need a HTIB. When purchasing just make sure it has all the connections on the back to hook up your computer, S-video and depending on your computer a digital input. I have a couple of friends who have done this with a HTIB in a dorm room, nice cheap set up.

Yeah, I did a little bit of research, and I figured I'd need a HTIB. I've found that you can get A/V Receiver / DVD Player combos, but I guess I need you guys to tell me exactly what outputs and inputs I need on the back of this thing in order to hook up a TV, Stereo speakers and both sound and video input from a computer.

An easy way to hook your computer up to your HT system for music and movies would be to use one of these media players from Dlink. They can be connected by an ethernet cable or wireless.
This one includes a DVD player which can also play CD's

This one is more simple, no DVD/CD player.

They are supposed to be good products and carry the Plays For Sure label from Microsoft. I believe that other manufacturers like Linsys make similar products.
