looking for guidence

hi everyone. im just getting started in the world of speaker building and i need some direction and advice. i bought the loudspeaker design cookbook 6th edition in hope that it would give me said direction. its got alot of information on speaker design but its very dence and im having a hard time decoding it. i want to build a pair of speakers that will put out some serious bass to turn my garage into a mini club. heres the twist, i am a working student and therefor have almost no bugget. i have a lot of drivers and other speaker componets that i have salvaged from varrious speakers. i have some money but buying premade speakers or all new componets for a kit are kinda out of my price range. can anyone point me in the direction of a good tutorial or a simplifyed speaker design book?

There's a website that has javascript speakerbox calculators. It doesn't get much easier than that. Here it is:

Fortunately, low budget and serious club bass go well together. The trick is to use a ported box, with the tuned frequency at around 40Hz or so. By giving up the lowest octave of frequencies, you gain a LOT of volume with very little amplifier power. You can also use efficient speakers that don't have much excursion.

The only catch is this: building a ported box for a speaker must be done right. If you don't have the specifications for the speakers you salvaged, you need a lot of luck and trial and error to build and properly tune a good ported box. If you don't build it right, it'll have that horrible one note wet-sounding thump you hear from passing cars spraypainted with grey primer.

If you can shell out a few bucks, there are cheap drivers aplenty to be had from MCM and PartsExpress, starting at $12 and going up from there. And getting the club bass slam can be done with relatively inexpensive drivers with a proper design.

thanks for the help. that calulator is really nifty, unfortunately the woofers i have specs for have a Qts of .54 and the calulator only works for Qts of .18 to .28. its always something with me . it could never be easy. got any other sugesstions?
