Looking for good replacement for Bose 5.1 acoustimass speakers

I have a Bose acoustimass sound system that came with my house, and have never really been in pressed with the sound quality. The sad part is all the wiring is run through the walls so a bit limited on what I can replace it with. I am looking for some suggestions on a supervisor audio experience. I have a Denon AVR-S710W so have the ability to push most speakers.

Do they need to be that small? 5.1 set or? Sub included or? Speaker to listening seat distances? Listening uses and levels? Budget?

They don't have to be small, but need to be able to be wall mounted. So the wiring all runs to the back corner of the room where the sub sits, and then out to the speaker, and I am afraid that if I splice the wires to go directly to the speakers it will exceed the max length. Is about 18 feet from front speakers. Used for Movies and Music, so want a good range on the speakers. I am ok with a sub to cover the Lows. Budget is under 3k.

Your going to have to move the electronics to where the sub was, unless you want to run wires and splice. How much of the look of the speakers need approval?

By that he is wondering if they have to look good for the wife/significant other or not?

Good news is that it will be easy to beat the sound of the B(l)ose... Requirements to use the same speaker wires are rather simple, amplifier or receiver needs to be where the sub was. Speaker wise there is a very large number of options at this point. I suspect the options are going to come down to bookshelf speakers (small enough to wall mount), and a separate subwoofer to fill in the bottom end. Budget, listening preferences (%movies to music, kind of music, etc...), how much do they need to meet WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) and size/configuration of the listening space will go a long way towards narrowing things down.

If someone had a Bose speaker setup, I'll be highly suspect of the wiring used.

You should verify that it is, at minimum, 14 gauge in-wall certified wire. Your home insurance may not cover a fire caused by a short in them, assuming they are not up to snuff.

Worst case scenario, you might have to bury the existing wire runs and start over. Hopefully, if it comes to that, you can use them to pull through better suited speaker wire.
