I got my new Panasonic set up. It has 3D capability but I have no 3D discs. Would anyone care to recommend some titles? The only movie in recent memory I saw in 3D was Avatar at the IMAX. I currently own the 2D version of it but am sort of questioning that purchase since I've only watched it once.

I'm looking for fun movies with well done 3D presentations. Anyone? Buehler? Anyone?

I own, Journey to the center of earth, polar express, bloody valentine, beuowolf, tim burtons alice wonderland, and a few other cartoons the kids used too watch before they got too cool for toons, like Up, How 2 train your dragon, toy story, ect... but 3d is useless to me, not worth the trouble....

if its for sale cheap the guy that did avatar did that movie about the sunken ships, forget what it was called, but I watched it at a friends house in 3d , pretty cool..

edit- I guess its not cheap , I had to look it up, the name was bothering me, I would never be able to sleep... http://www.amazon.com/Ghosts-Abyss-3D-Three-Disc-Combo/dp/B0081VMY7W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1387423933&sr=8-1&keywords=ghosts+from+the+abyss

Avatar is good, not great 3D, so I wouldn't use that as a metric and having bought the 3D myself, it would not be at the top of the list. A few of my favs:

Despicable Me 1 & 2 easily the best 3D titles out
Coraline
Prometheus
Dredd
Underworld: Evolution
The Amazing Spiderman

I was thinking about getting The Avengers which I already own in 2D. Also considering the Toy Story trilogy because CGI is supposed to really benefit most from 3D conversion.

Definitely the Avengers. Surprisingly the last two Resident Evil movies have really good 3D effects. I gather they were filmed with 3D cameras and it shows. They are certainly not great movies but enjoyable in 3D. Tangled is pretty good for a kids movie. Pacific Rim is great in 3D. The best without a doubt is A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas. It makes better use of 3D than any other movie however it is a stoner humor flick (which works for me).

Imax: Under the Sea is a must watch. It's not technically a movie, but it's really does a great job with 3d.

I forgot Avengers, it is also very good.

The last RE movie Retribution wasn't so good; RE:Afterlife was passable and incredible 3D, but unless you like those movies, they probably aren't buys (I own Afterlife, saw it in the theater in 3D also). These movies were clearly designed around 3D.

Pacific Rim is what I use to demo 3D for friends now :) How could I forget that one? Pacific Rim is a converted movie and I would normally say skip converted 3D movies, but this one definitely needs to be watched in 3D.

Finding Nemo 3D was pretty good as well. The Pixar movies aren't "converted" they actually reprocessed them for 3D AFAIK, since they are already all digital. I don't own those in 3D only 2D, but all of them are supposed to be good.

Tron: Legacy has some good 3D scenes, but not the whole film. The rest of it was converted and looks just OK. The good scenes look really good though :)

Coraline is stop motion that was shot with a custom camera in 3D. Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach were converted and reviews say not the best examples.

I wanted to pick up The Hobbit 3D, but I will most likely wait for a complete set (and no doubt EEs) once they release all of them.

I ordered The Avengers in 3D to start. I'm not really sold on 3D. I think it's a gimmick. Still, as long as I have the capability... all I have to do is run an extra HDMI cable from the Oppo to the TV and put batteries in the glasses.

Kinda sucks to pay $35 for a movie I already own but what the hell. I've filled my collection by waiting for blu rays to drop below $10. Still pissed that The Incredibles won't budge from $29.

I use price tracker on Blu-ray.com and it will email when the price for 3D titles drops to reasonable levels. IIRC, I paid like $24 for Avengers 3D, and $20-25 is about my average 3D price. Frys frequently puts just one or two titles on major discount every few weeks too, so I've gotten a few like RE:Afterlife for $16. HP - Deathly Hallows Pt2 was $14 last week, but I didn't pick it up.

I haven't seen Polar Express in 3D, but clearly it was created for 3D. I may pick that one up; I missed it when it was on sale at Frys.

I thought it was a Gimmick at first too, but once you start seeing the better titles, it makes more sense. I wouldn't call it a must have feature, but for those titles that the 3D is well done like Pacific Rim, it does add quite a bit to the experience.

I watched The Avengers in 3D tonight. Some parts were great and a few parts really didn't work. The aircraft carrier looked more obviously like a model in 3D. I don't think I would spend a ton of time watching 3D movies but I had to get that out of my system. :)

PS: I'm still leaning towards thinking 3D is a gimmick. For the same reason books are better than movies, 2D is better than 3D because your brain gets to fill in more.
