This is for a friend and I don't thing he is much of an audiofile, and is looking for a 2 channel amp that will drive some cheap Polk 100wpc audio speakers for his kitchen.

He was thinking even a car amp, but you can't power the thing up in a house.

Now I myself Have the Rotel 1095, as I didn't want anything cheap, so this is why I am asking as I wouldn't know where to look for something of this nature..
Not too cheap, not too crappy...

Thanks for your help on this retarded question.. :)

Inexpensive amp

Audio source makes some inexpensive stereo amps and they show up on ubid periodically for $60-70.

The sonic Impact T-amp is only about 15 Watts, but it only costs $30.

Another idea, stereo receiver from a thrift store.

Ok cool.... thanks for the suggestions.. !!!

Both the emotiva and the Audiosource amps will work...

I personally would go for the Emotiva, has the low pass filter, and good quality rated performance, but who knows, maybe he just wants CHEAP :(

Closer to 5 watts, really, when actually measured within useful levels of disortion. Also, the $30 version has bass rolloff issues.

Of course, Behringer A500 is a very well built amplifier, and has been measured in credible 3rd party tests to be stable under virtually any level of reactive load(so called 'complex' load loudspeakers). The unit also provides much more power as compared to the similarly priced Emotiva. The only issue may be the cosmetics of the front of the Behringer. It is a cheap looking molded plastic front plate, which is confusing, since the rest of the unit is a thick steel, and with excessive large aluminum heat sinks on the sides.

hey ... wasn't this a recommendation for the A500 ...

I wouldn't suggest the BPA-1 if you had already suggested it. :p
My ninja quick editing didn't fool you?;) After I put that there I thought the A500 would be a little much for his application.

haha, I edited my answer myself ... I intially recommended the Rotel 06 or 03 series but realized it might not be available in the US (only in Europe)
