Looking for advice

Hello,
I'm a new member of this forum. I'm looking to replace my NAD T770 and would appreciate an advice top what brand or receiver would have an similar sound with up to date features for connectivity (i.e. HDMI, etc) and functionality. I'm using 5 B&W DM series speakers with a Velodyne Sub. I'm willing to buy a used unit in order to keep my cost low. Thank you,

The entire room size is 13x35, however the living room area where we sit and watch TV is about 13x16 in the middle of the big room.

Welcome Avig. As I know little about B&W, I went to look here for your speaker's specs: B&W Group North America Service & Support - B&W Archive Manuals & CAD Drawings.

Your centre and surrounds are shown, but I couldn't see "DM640 S2" mains. There's DM640's and DM604 S2's though. The DM640's are spec'd as 4Ω nominal impedance. The DM604 S2 are spec'd as 8Ω nominal but add "(min 3Ω)", which says to me they're really closer to a 4Ω speaker. That being the case, and if you also prefer to listen at fairly loud levels, it's sensible to aim for an AVR rated for 4Ω speakers.

I don't believe there'll be any actual difference in the inherent sound quality of the two. However, the combination of native multichannel lossless audio sources, more advanced DSP options and a smart setup and auto-EQ routine mean the Onkyo's (and most current AVR's) have the potential for significantly improved overall sound compared to the NAD.

The Onkyo's I linked above are used and factory refurbished. Unfortunately these days, if you need a 4Ω rated AVR you have to go a fair way up the product line, and these are the prices you're looking at.

I wouldnt worry about the denon and them speakers for a second... Do some research on the brands and their reliability and customer service before pulling the trigger, I have had and heard about good luck with marantz, denon, and pioneer...

Try and scoop up Yamaha's RX-A2010/2020 or RX-A3010/3020 receivers. They are now at 2040/3040 model numbers...with minor upgrades to the feature set. Of all the brands, Yamaha seems to be rated the highest in both quality of product and customer service. I've have an old RX-V1800 thats driving an entire suite of PSB Image series speakers which are more of 4-6 ohm speaker with no difficulty at all.
