Hey there everyone, I am fairly new to this home theater set up and have a few questions..
I currently have a Yamaha rx-v679 as my reciver with Def Tech SM-65's for my two fronts, a Def Tech CS-8040 for my center and 2 PM800's for the surrounds.
I am looking into getting a HSU sub in the near future, most likely the VTF-3 MK5 HP.
I was wondering if my reciever was enough to power everything correctly without any issues or if i need a seperate amp?

Again fairly new to all the set up and have been reading around but just curious to any advice going forward with the set-up. Appreciate any help!

It depends on the impedance profile of each speaker to an extent, your amp's capability to deal with such as well as overall your spl (sound pressure level) requirements at your seat in your room; maybe try an spl calculator to get an idea of your needs. Hard to know if you'd benefit from an external amp but your receiver doesn't have pre-outs for such an amp anyhoo (only has subwoofer preouts), so you'd need a different avr/pre-amp to use an external amp for your speakers.

Easiest thing to do is hook it all up, calibrate with YPAO and sit back and enjoy it, if it can't get loud enough without distortion/clipping then maybe you need to do some more shopping, but otherwise just enjoy....
