Looking for advice on Rear Surround Speaker placement

I have a pair of Boston Acoustics vrs micro rear surround sound speakers like those found here: (they won't let me post a link, but google "Boston Acoustics vrs micro site avguide" and it is the first link to come up)

I have an odd living room layout due to a vaulted ceiling, a fireplace being on the east wall and open hallways on the west and south walls. I am waiting a replacement part for the rears, but while I wait, I am trying to determine the best mounting locations for the new them. I already have cable behind the mounting locations with enough slack to locate them anywhere on the back wall. The mounting brackets are fixed to place the speaker perpendicular against the wall. I have created a layman drawing of the layout of the room as well as included a photo of the wall where these speakers will be mounted. Normally, I wouldn't have an issue, but since these are dipole speakers, I'm at a loss.

Since this site doesn't allow attachments nor links, you can view the attachments by googling the following:

Any suggestions?

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and hopefully respond!

Post jibberish 4 times in this thread:

My initial concern is that I think that dipole surrounds will rely heavily on reflections to help create that diffuse soundfield. If the openings for hallways aren't too large, and the room is relatively symmetrical otherwise, perhaps it can work out well. Dipoles are designed so that you sit in the "null".

Once you have photos/diagrams, I bet someone can more properly help you.

Thanks Jostenmeat, maybe now I can post some links.

So here are the speakers, these were part of this set>

And I have posted photos and a schematic here:

To give you some background, my Wife is in college, and that gives me a budget of, well nothing, and the entire system is made up of bits and pieces that have been donated. All told, everything I have spent so far has added up to about $75.00. So with that in mind, my options are to work with what I have, and be blessed that I have it.

Now a friend of mine suggested I mount one centered on the south-west wall, and one centered on the south wall both at the same overall height. Interesting suggestion, any thoughts?

BTW, my headunit is a Yamaha HTR-6130 which will allow me to input the speaker distance as well, not sure if that helps any.

Thanks in adance, Victor

I see that Wayne is helping you, great. He posts here too.

I don't quite understand the locations in mind that your friend suggests.

My initial reaction is that I wouldn't even use surrounds here, or, I'd get a pair of speaker stands if that is even a remote possibility.

I'm sorry that I think that way, right now. I hope others will give you better options.

The quality of the attachment is subpar IMHO, so here is a link to a drawing with his suggestion on it.

I also found that I had a photobucket acct, so I created a album for this project.

One of the driving factors (no pun intended), is I'm an avid Gran Turismo (PS3 racing game) fan, and the latest version is in full Dolby DTS, and it would be fantastic to hear a car trying to pass me on the left :)

OK, get some makeshift stands for now, or even ladders, and start experimenting. For your desired intents, I would go with monopoles, maybe bipoles, but monopoles are cheaper and still do the job. Since you're keeping these for sure, experiment, and then know for sure. It would be bad to guess, be wrong, and have already drilled and wired.

I like the ladder idea, and that was something my friend suggested as well. Any suggestions on a test track to determine the quality of my sound stage?

Gran Turismo, since it is one of the driving factors for you. (BTW, it can't be DTS and Dolby at the same time, as they are competing codec/algorithm companies).
