Looking for a subwoofer for HT and Music

I am in the process of upgrading my speakers to PSB Synchrony One (the fronts are the bookshelf version i.e. the Synchrony One B, not the towers) and I am looking for a subwoofer.

I don't want to spend more than 2-3K$ or so on the subwoofer and would like to limit myself to one sub if possible. I mainly watch movies but also listen to music a lot.

Based on advice I have received, it would seem that it is not important to buy a sub of the same brand than the other speakers. The Synchrony speakers are great and I don't want to ruin the sound with bloated or distorted bass, however.

So far I have considered the following:

-PSB Subseries 500
-SVS PB-13 Ultra
-Axiom EP-500

Any suggestions or advice?

Any size constraints, how big is the room? Give Mark Seaton's Submersive a look, that would be a top contender for me in your price range.

I would think long and hard about getting dual subs. I would try to get subs with good upper bass response. Then having each sub near respective monitor will give you the most flexibility in tailoring your xovers, even if only to have the freedom to choose a higher xover. The dual subs will also even out your room modes.

You could always just add one, see how you like it, then if you wanted to, add another later. But, if I did it all over again, I would take two slightly-lesser subs, instead of the one excellent sub. I think anyways. Hm.

Room Size

The speakers would be used in a living room which is 5m long (a meter is about 3.3 feet) and 4m wide. The living room opens on a dining room which is 3.5m long and 3m wide. There is no separation between the rooms. Ceiling height is about 2.7m.

If one sub is a priority, I would take a look at the Submersive Matt34 suggested. If multiple subs are possible, the HSU ULS-15 and Rythmik F15 subs are excellent choices.
