Hello All

I am looking for a sub and at this point thinking of just two based on reviews.

I am looking for either a Single Seaton Submersive HP or Dual Epik Empire. What will you say is ideal.

I will be using for 80% for HT and 20% for music.

Thanks

Your room size and goals are a bit different than mine and I haven't researched the subs you mentioned at all so I can't say about those two brands.

However, at that approximate price point ($1600 for 2 x Epik Empires) you could also look at the following:

Alternatively, you could wait until the big subwoofer review comes out. Another option is to call one of the companies and let them give you some advice, then come back here and ask folks who own them to chime in.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I too would get a Funkywaves 12.x or SVS PB12.Plus or HSU VTF-15

Sealed subs are nice in smaller rooms where the room adds to the sound.

In larger rooms you need more raw output down low. At worse if the sub has too much output you can EQ its low end down or mess with variable tuning frequencies.

What you can't do is EQ up as this will place more stress on a subwoofer.

Sealed is great if you have like four or plan on it.
Ported is better if you only have one or two and plan on it.

Thanks Guys

Hello Guys

Thanks for all the posts. I appreciate all the responses. I prefer sealed sub versus ported ones. I am not sure about the budget for four but will get two subs if its epic empire.

In case of Seaton HP I will go initially with just one.

I will look at SVS as well.

Thanks

CS 18.1 or the CS18.2 from Chase Home Theater are sealed subs. I have heard good reviews on them.

Check out avsforums. 'michman' bought two Empires and compared them against a Submersive. Results are on p.18 of the thread.

Cliff's: Empires played 4-5 dB louder and went down to 10hz whereas the Submersive started clipping below 20.

Sound quality was a wash.

My advice is that you would be more than happy with two sealed subs. Don't forget it's two drivers per Empire and 300w RMS each. That's why they get good output.

Spend the money you save on some bribes for your wife (if applicable). The Empires are big and she will notice them.

Cheers,
Nate

Hello Guys

I was unable to wait any longer and just bought a Submersive HP. Seller shipped already and it should be here anytime.

Thanks again for all your input.

Thanks

Can you message me what you think of the submersive? I'm thinking about a pair of these but haven't been able to pull the trigger.

Will do and thanks to all you guys

Hello All

I heard the original submersive and was very impressed with that. That being said, if I had the space then JTR Captivator or Orbit Shifter is def not a bad one.

I would have been happy with either one of those. I will get this set up over the weekend and will post about the same.

Currently my set up

Samsung LCD Display
Klipsch Ref-7 II
Klipsch RC-64 Center
Cambridge Surrounds x4
Oppo 93
XDA-1 DAC
AV8003 Preamp
7/2100A Sherborun Amp

Initial impressions

Last night I picked up my Submersive. HP. I hooked it up to my preamplifier, set the level on the Sub and then ran ARC to integrate with my system. LCR was set as small.

We then ran LFE Demo Disk with materials from Dark Knight, Master and Commander,Pearl harbor and Iron Man. I was grinning all this time as it was nothing like I ever experienced.

It obviously played loud but I heard no distortion. I also felt that the sub was not giving away it's position.

Today we will be running some tests(my bro is helping me) and will try and post some graphs.

All in all my next upgrade would be second season submersive hp. :)

Cheers

What color did you get? Mark Seaton makes some great looking subs.
