I thought I had this issue resolved but it might not be so I'm going for attempt #2...

I've got a home theater I've been working on that will be used for probably HT and music about half and half. My mains are Advent Laureates (dual 6.5") and I've got an ok Sony AVD-S50ES receiver.

I thought I was going to be the owner of a Dayton Titanic III 10" that I had purchased on ebay for a pretty good price, but now it seems that the seller may not be quite holding up his end... so I'm starting to look again now. So I guess what I'm asking is how the 10" Titanic might hold up to the low end HSUs (assuming that I'd probably buy a new titanic kit if I went that way) and if the Titanic would really be worth the price over some of the other decent and reasonably priced subs out there like the BIC H100 and the Cadence Xsub12, and how they might compare to the low end offerings from the more mainstream companies like the Velodyne VX-10 or VRP-1000 (both of which seem to be fairly highly reviewed on sites, but don't seem to get talked about much on A/V forums).

Any opinions are appreciated :)

I suggest the Velodyne in-wall subwoofer. It's what I'm using right now and I'm very pleased. However, when designing my system, I wanted everything embedded in the walls; including the tv and other devices. You may not want a similar design. Therefore, I suggest building your own sub as they are easy to build, cheaper, and of the same quality. Furthermore, I suggest incorporating the sub into the sofa. I haven't done such a task myself, but my best friend has and believe it or not, the results were great.

EDIT: Scratch the sofa idea if this is your first build. Not only since it may be yout first build and you would be inexperienced, but my friend had a large sofa to use and was able to box the sub in with the wooden framing of the sofa.

You see, I'm all about concealment. You can't see any electronic device of my system. For example, I have my plasma tv embedded in the wall, including the cables. To further conceal my tv when not in use, I have a large Bob Ross painting to cover the tv. This also keeps it clean. You can walk in my family room and you would not think I even had a tv, let alone a home theater.
