Hello all,

I am slowly adding to my collection/setup.

currently I have
Front: Wharfedale Emerald 97 MK IV
Center: Wharfedale Modus Music Center Channel
Surround: none
Back: none
Sub: none
Receiver: Onkyo TXSR601

Help me choose a subwoofer and surround speakers to match.
Price around $200-300 range
Thanks...

The surrounds should match (Don't really have to but it's going to look different, which is enough for me to make them match). but the subwoofer doesn't.

$200-$300 isn't going to get you anywhere for a subwoofer. It might do surrounds to match your set, but for a decent subwoofer you're going to have to spend $500 minimum IMO. Anything less isn't worth it for the long run.

What size is your room, and how much music/movie (%/%) watching will you be doing?

I would have to second what Sheep had to say. It would certainly be prudent of you to spend $300 on a set of decent surrounds than to put that much into a subwoofer--as you will not be able to buy a sub with any kind of realistic capabilities with that much money. Again, as Sheep said a minimum of $500 is really the entry price into an appropriate subwoofer, and at that price, possibly a more expensive unit that you might be able to find used somewhere online....

Most important is the size of your room. Is there any large openings to other areas of the house?

you guys!!! There are thousands of audioholics out there who cannot afford a $500.00 subwoofer. People who dont have that kind of money but still want to have the best sounding equipment available.
Most of the people in this forum have small listening rooms. There are many lower priced subwoofers available in the market that will do a great job for this fellow audioholic.
