no home theatre or anything custom because it's far too complicated for a not very audio tech savvy person like me. i just want to purchase it, plug in and use it.

but im looking for a quality desktop speakers that is good with Hip-Hop music. i don't mind blowing up to $300 on it.

i was previously using Bose Companion 3 and had a terrible experience so please don't recommend Bose. i was thinking of the Harman Kardon soundsticks III. opinions? (the 3rd one is relatively new right?)

thanks!

Hey Ruzz,

Given that price range and the fact that you are plugging them into a computer, I would recommend the Logitech Z5500s (http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/satellite/logitech-z-5500). When on sale they dip below the $300 mark, and have really good bass in the range that your favored genre typically uses.

I'm not familiar with the Harmon Kardon speakers mentioned, but I will say, if you are after a visually impacting set of speakers, those would fit the bill nicely. Would they have the same audio performance as the Logitechs? Probably not. I have the Z5500s for my computer speakers and have enjoyed them immensely.

Cheers,

Bill

Those Behringers would be good but I don't think they will have much in the way of strong bass. I think it would be better to get some Behringer 2031p monitors, and a old 2 channel receiver from ebay or craigslist, one that can handle 4 ohm speakers. They are pretty large bookshelf speakers though, but with 8.75" woofers they hardly need a subwoofer.
