Just wondering if there's a well recorded CD that exclusively has drum tracks?

did a search for drum solo at amazon and came up with a couple interesting drum solo dvds that I added to my save for later pile, there is one cd called Terry Bozio - Solo Drums, have no idea what that is and it doesn't have clips to sample

You can't go wrong with Terry Bozzio. He was the drummer in Frank Zappa's band from the mid 70's to the mid 80's, and like anyone who got a gig with Frank, he's a highly learned and skilled player.

Check out this video:
Zappa called it "the Black Page drum solo" because it's a written piece with so many notes, the page looks black.

Terry has a solo track on YCDTOSA Vol 3 called "Hands With a Hammer"

As for checking the sound of drums on my system at home, the best recording I have (out of about 1,700) is track 4, the title track to Clarence Penn's "Penn's Landing" CD. The track has both a bass solo and a high-impact clear, spacious drum solo. Each piece of the kit is in the right place in the sonudstage with plenty of tonal accuracy.

Persian and Middle Eastern Percussion by Zarbang. Mondo Head by Kodo. Audio by Blue Man Group. Tala Matrix by Tabla Beat Science. Pretty much anything by Mickey Hart or Baba Olantunji (sp?).

Tons of Drums

Terry Bozio is excellent. Saw him in concert with Jeff Beck. :D
Another artist is Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead. He travels the world recording different types of drumming. All his newer CD's are recorded in HDCD. Whether you liked the Dead's music or not they did & still process sound at the highest level. Just look at their old "Wall of Sound" from the early 70's.

Enjoy your quest :)

I saw him with Jeff Beck too, it was the Guitar Garage tour, they were opening up for Stevie Ray Vaughan. One of the best concerts I ever saw.

If you want a band with drums prominent at the center of the music I like Talking Heads – Stop Making Sense

Some of the Mickey Hart stuff was pretty good....suprised noone has mentioned that (like the Dafos with Flora Purim)

The Manneheim Steamroller III disc track 1 (Tocatta) is pretty good for some drum-ble, but one of my favorites is track 3 on the Windham Hill "Country" soundtrack...."Aftermath".....good stuff!

Here are a couple more classic drum solos. Jon Bonhom's Moby **** on Led Zeppelin Coda and Carl Palmer's synthesized percussion on Emerson, Lake and Palmer's Welcome Back My Friends to the Show that Never Ends.

It is hilarious that that got censored!:D I guess we have to refer to the famous novel as "Moby Richard"! LOL.

Recent discovery: Stanton Moore III.
Classified as "jazz" but really much more rock.
This guy doesn't just play the drums, he plays the hell out of the drums!
