It occurs to me that people build their social networks w/ like-minded people. Just scan through your "friends" pages on the facebook. The messages of agreement and support seem to outnumber any disagreement 100/1.

I suppose there are sites that thrive on contention, but I don't see it in the common person's network. Even the lazy good-for-nothing slug will have a network of people who are so proud of him, agree it is somebody else's fault, and agree with every feeble excuse he makes. It is a way to get validation whether he deserves it or not... kind of like a "participation" trophy.

While I understand and appreciate the newspaper picture, I don't think it's the same thing. Funny, though.

It's just like anything else. The people that are buried in their phones would probably use that as propaganda to justify there use of smartphones in public places.

People make their own choices to do the things they do. Most of these things in moderation are fine, but most people (I won't exclude myself) don't have a clear definition of what moderation is.
