<font color='#000000'>First off, I typically go for gear that's not audiophile grade but is still pretty good. I've got a Denon 3803 and just bought a pair of Vienna Acoustics Schonbergs. I really liked the sound of these guys at the stereo store. However, I discovered that my receiver manual says I should not connect anything rated lower than 6 ohms. Given the length of my cable run (see below), I imagine that I probably am risking things by doing this.
How important is it to follow my manual in this regard? If I return the Schonbergs, does anyone have an 8 ohm speaker with a similar sound signature they'd recommend? I've got a large open room (loft) and I like a pretty difuse soundfield -- the Martin Logan speakers were two "directional" for my application.
- Wiring -
I've read
http://home.earthlink.net/~rogerr7/ and I need to decide what to do about speaker wiring. I've got a projector in the back of the room on top of a rack with all my AV equipment. My speakers are 20 feet away in the front of the room.
I have two options for wiring:
1) Ignore the ugliness and run the cabling on the floor to the front of the room, covering it with a wiremold or similar cover
2) Make it nearly invisible and run it up the stairs to the loft, across, and back down through the wall in the front. I could optionally put speaker jacks in the wall to give it a nicer look. This would mean 75-80 feet of wire from back to front for L/C/R, plus LFE for the sub.
Thus, two problems exist - wiring and speakers. I imagine that I'd be safer sticking to 8 ohm speakers given the distance for the wiring. My concerns are both amp/speaker safety and audio quality. I understand that runs over 50 feet start to result in perceptible audio quality loss for those with good ears (and mine are).
My tentative plan is to do the longer run with 12ga sound king wire from PE.
Thoughts?
Thanks.
