Long (20') Cable Run

I have a run of ~20' from my audio rack to my speakers, and I have 2 choices for cabling. . .

I can either go with speaker cable, or I can place my amp on an amp-stand between the speakers and use balanced interconnects between my amp and preamp.

Any recommendations? If I go with speaker cable, do you think I need to go shielded or shouldn't I be concerned? If I need shielded, what brand cable(finished cable only-don't want to DIY) would you recommend? Doesn't look like Cobalt or River offer shielded. . .

Equipment is Pass Labs X250 amp and X1 preamp.

Thanks!

Unless you have issues with interference or MUST run your speaker cables near electrical wires, then shielding isn't really necessary. You should be fine. As far as Cobalt or River Cable, choose the one you like best. They both make quality products. You might also try Blue Jeans Cables. They offer the same cable as the River Cable StarFlex SPX, but at much less cost. I believe they will also add TechFlex for a nominal fee. To double check, email them:

Keep all wiring a few inches from the high voltage lines and you will be fine.

Amplified speaker power is MUCH less prone to interference than un-amplified signals, so investing in the balanced audio setup is not the way I would go.

20', by the way, is not far. 200' is far. ;) I'm running about 50' in my setup with zero issues.
