Is there any htib or any kind of speaker system in that website that would be a better choice over the z5500? ($260).

Maybe the yamaha 390?

I plan on using it on a small room for my pc & ps3 i have very little knowledge or exp with speakers so please let me know ASAP as tomorrow is the last day i can buy (no 7% tax)

Welcome to the forum!

The Z-5500 system has gotten good reviews and has some fans on this forum. I haven't heard it, but I think that it would do fine in a small room. You say that your room is small, but do you know how far you'll be sitting from the speakers? Systems like that are best when used fairly close like with a PC.

That Yamaha unit has gotten very good reviews on Amazon. If you haven't, you could read the reviews on that site.

Hi, well im probably gonnna be 3-5ft away on a couch playing the ps3 or watching a movie and obviously up close when pc gaming/browsing... it's a 24"lcd.

At 3-5 feet away, I'd probably go with the Z-5500. It's cheaper and designed for that type of listening. I have no experience to back this up, but I have this suspicion that the bass output on the Z-5500 will be better.

Hopefully others who have experience with either of those systems will chime in (if they are reading...it is late on a Friday night).

Yeah, I'd go with the z500... I think you'll like it better for the money... The only thing i dont like about it is the sub... its pretty boomy but its also plenty loud. I'm sure the overall response curve is pretty mediocre but it will "sound good" Sometimes the smaller systems like that benefit from over internal EQing and can provide a pretty enjoyable experience... especially at that price. Down the road you can always invest in a "reference" type of setup.

On the flip side and something to consider... the yammy receiver is a decent receiver and has plenty of headroom if you decided to just upgrade speakers down the road.

hmm im leaning towards it now.. btw they also have some Altec Lansing FX5051 pc speakers for a pretty good price on compusa. Do these have optical connection like the logitech z5500? Optical connection is a must for my ps3... right???

From what I can tell, the FX5051 system does not have an optical input. It has 5.1 analog inputs and a USB input.

Its not imperative but it is the best connection...

Looking at reviews and from my past experience with the two companies and specs and all that.. go with the logi over the altecs...

Did a little more research.. the yammy htib is probably a better choice in terms of fidelity, flexibility, and features... Depending on your experience in audio though I still think the logi setup will give you more of a wow factor right out of the box. For me, i would have to have a setup with a receiver that allowed me more options and customization. I also like having what is probably a more accurate sound. But i can see the yammy setup being dissapointing for somebody looking for more "noise".. .does any of that make sense..

I'm recommending the logitech but truly belive that the yamaha htib is the superior system.

I've lost my mind....

Alright guys im gonna narrow it down to the logitech 55000 & Altec Lansing FX 5051.

Things that i though about last night... i really don't neet loudness at all.. as im planning to have a medium volume just because i don't wanna piss the neighbors. And im surely gonna use my Sennheisers 595 late at night prob when im pc gaming. Speakers will be strictly for ps3/movie use 3-5 ft away.

Been trying to search everywhere and from what i hear the 5500 sub is to loud and lacks abit mids-highs while some say the FX 5051 is more balanced and a better pick over the THX certified 5500. What do you guys think? If there isn't much difference between the two i will probably buy the cheaper one.

Altec Lansing FX5051 ($180): Cheaper, no optical
Logitech z5500 ($270): More powerful, Optical

Why are you forced to buy only from CompuUSA? You are being limited to incredibly inferior options by only being able to purchase from this store. If you had other options, you could spend the same amount and get FAR superior set up for the same price range.

I'm from Puerto Rico so buying online is expensive because of shipping cost especially ups(around $100 or more). Here i only have Best Buy, Circuit City(called "The City"). These people from bestbuy and circuit city sell stuff at a much higher price than what the online webpage says... Only systemax(Compusa) sticks to Conntinental US prices. Anyway what other store/sysem were you thinking Chris?

That poses a real problem. However, if you so desire, I will help you out here and ship whatever you need to you via USPS, which has very reasonable rates to PR since it's a US Territory and they offer/have full USPS service. Of course, I expect you think I'm a scammer by offering such a service. But I have helped people do this before, and you can refer to my 100 percent eBay feedback. PM me if interested. The way I see it, it's the only way you will get good gear for your dollar. You might be able to find some eBay sellers that will ship to PR via USPS also, allowing you to get fair deals on good gear, assuming that gear available on there.

Personally, I think buying the stuff you pose to buy at CompUSA is throwing your money away, and I hate to see that, and that's why I'm offering to give you an option.

BTW, as far as the probability of my ripping you off, consider that I have even given away gear on this site in contests that I personally paid for. I recently gave away a $200 Behringer A500 amp to hifihoney in a contest, and a $60 PS3 game in a similar contest. I hardly have any reason to rip you off. :)

joetib, Chris is a stand-up guy. You can check out his posts here and see how long that he's been a member, as well as checking out his eBay feedback. My two cents is to consider the convenience of both routes (buying directly from CompUSA versus working with Chris to get some gear), including the time both routes take and the relative ease of returning products if you don't like them.

Well at this point im seriously considering going out in an hour or two and bring home a z5500 system. But Chris you're telling me a z5500 is a bad system for $270? What else out there is better for less than $300? Z5500 is the only option i got just because its pretty much the cheapest 5.1 true surround sound thats got an optical input for ps3.

OK guys i backed out outta buying the logitech z5500 or yamaha 390BL both where very close to the $300 in my area. I've decided to work with Chris to get a better setup by buying things separated online. This means i have to waste around $525 because of shipping and possibly better gear. Chris (Wmax) has helped me get stuff online and so far this is what im planning to buy:

Behringer B2030P speakers...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=280270722183
$155 shipped priority mail w dc/insurance
Dayton 12" sub (i had no idea that audioholics was a store & im nto sure where they are located any feedback would be nice)
http://store.audioholics.com/product/1974/20/dayton-sub-120-12--150-watt-powered-subwoofer
$200 shipped priority mail with dc/insurance

Prices are obviously a bit higher because im from Puerto Rico.

All im missing now is the receiver for around 150-175 Chris already recommended the SR505 around that price range on accesories4less im just waiting on them to see if the can ship USPS priority to me because their fedex shipping is arouud $100 ...which is madness!

I gotta go i'll bbl in the day for more details let me know what you guys think!
