Logitech Elite issues

So I recently was given a Logitech Harmony Elite remote. Everything worked, controls all of my devices....but all of a sudden the Devices button has stopped working. Tried a factory reset and soft reset, no dice. Everything shows properly in the Harmony app on my phone. Should I say forget the remote at this point and just use my phone? This is frustrating to say the least.

It's been a while since I used my harmony remotes, do they even support the devices anymore?

I thought you could save your profile and it should just be a matter of reinstalling it? I have like 3 of the Harmony ones collecting dust, gave up on the company a while ago when they stopped production

My Harmony Elite works just fine and the Harmony Hub still has a connection to Logitech servers as seen by the green LED light (disabling Internet access makes it red).

So servers appears to be working and a few months ago they even updated with new devices.

I've tried that multiple times. Maybe it's a support issue? This is the second time that I've had this happen. The first time a factory reset worked. Not so much this time.

Everything works as it should when I use the Android app though.

Have you tried using the desktop application for the Elite for reset or setup? You'll have to connect the remote to the PC using USB so perhaps they will give you some info about it.

How about trying reprogramming that button even if just temporarily? (that's a touch-screen button on your remote IIRC?).

I suppose you could call THEM to find out..... Yeah, they still have tech support and they're still very helpful.

Yes, it's part of the touch screen, but that's not a button that can be programmed or deleted. IMO, it should never have been included and I had a customer who repeatedly called to tell me the system didn't work and EVERY GD time, the remote was in Device mode. I created a very usable cheat sheet and included instructions about Device vs Activity mode, but he thought he had everything d!cked and had no idea. His daughter wanted to watch a DVD while I was programming their first remote and as I worked, she sat next to me, looked at the Harmony 1000, pressed one button, waited and pressed Play. I told her absolutely nothing about how to do that, yet there she was, operating the system when she was 3-1/2 years old.

You can create new profiles if you want. I still use Harmony remotes in several systems and have the software on my pc any time I need to communicate with their servers... Which models do you have?

You pressed Menu & Off button for 20 seconds, right?

What commands do you need to use? They (just about any) can be added to an activity if you add commands the way I do- I put Zone2 commands at the bottom of activities when it's more convenient to use one remote and it works well. I also remove commands that aren't needed.

I have repurposed a touch screen button on my Ultimate remote....but agree device mode can be confusing.....gave a Harmony to my brother's family and they would mix up activities and devices which can get weird....

The Ultimate was similar, but a different design WRT software and processing.

Either way, it's too easy to press the Device button and screw up the settings and I found out the hard way that the Denon AVR-3311CI would go WOT if its remote was in AMP mode and the number 1 button was pressed. That didn't make me happy, but it was their own remote and someone should have included that in the manual. If I had placed that command in an activity, I can't imagine the calls I would have received if the kids or babysitter had pressed it, expecting the AVR to do something different. If the homeowners had done it while hosting a party, yikes!

Universal remotes are supposed to minimize control problems but including a device button when someone doesn't have a list of settings for each activity is just asking for trouble.

I was a Beta tester for the Elite and the 2400 Pro hub- I tried to get them to eliminate the device button, but the program had been written and the hardware was in production. Fortunately, the first group call with their Digital Products Group and those of us who ended up being Beta testers was early enough that we could get them to change the 2.5mm IR jacks to 3.5mm, like everyone else.

I would like to go to Logitech HQ and kick someone's butt- they have the most comprehensive database, their tech support has been far more helpful that URC and their remote control sales were increasing by leaps and bounds but when COVID hit, everyone wanted to be able to do video calls to friends & family who couldn't be there and since those products require just about zero tech support and are very inexpensive to manufacture, it came down to money, not the users. Logitech sells more video conferencing hardware than anyone else in the consumer and even many pro markets. Sure, they'll support them for a long time- they sold far more remotes than their SlingBox which is still supported AFAIK, but that's not the point. I'm not sure they were actually aware of the shift from URC, RTi and a couple of other brands toward Harmony- even URC added a Help button to some of their models. The last time I went to a URC training session, they had nothing bad to say about Harmony, unlike several years before.
