Living up to the stereotype.

I have been living in -10*C temps for the last week or so, and we've seen snow. My opinion of snow varies depending on how much there is. 2 inches is annoying, as work is still on, but it makes everything harder. 2 feet however, is fun, because I can build an igloo on my front lawn, and hot box it with my Hookah.

Guess what? I have 2 feet of snow. For the Igloo, we piled up a 6 foot tall mount of snow, and began packing it down with shovels. Going into this, we feared it would crumble as the snow was dry and fluffy (couldn't even make a snow ball). Once it was packed down, we carved the entrance and interior out. The igloo can seat 3 people comfortably with lots of headroom. We could dig it out a bit more on the sides, but we want it to last.

Pictures.

Some Celebrating was in order.

Now that is an igloo worthy of an Eskimo, good job.
Id probably put in some carpeting, maybe a sound system.

Wicked, brother. Thanks for the pics. That is an awesome igloo. Down here, I'd have to build one out of dirt.

If I get off work early enough tomorrow, I can get a shot in the daylight. There is actually a huge wall around it too. So far no one has vandalized it. If I catch someone trying to, they will pay.

How are the acoustics? If you freeze some bookshelfs into the wall, that should make for a very inert enclosure. Perhaps a very "cool" listening room.:D

Seriously? Man, you need to get a board and ride down a mountain some time.

I've lived in Louisiana, Texas, Minnesota (real snow and real cold), Pennsylvania and California. I experienced snow in every state but Pennsylvania (summer only). It's okay, but not fun to drive in. However, I'll take snow over icky ice any day of the week.

Happy Kwanzaa!

Nice work Sheep!

We have received 39.5" of snow this month... so far

I have a huge mountain in my front yard. It is getting a bit warm today & tomorrow mid to upper 30's (F). Once it cools I will have to see what I can come up with for the kids. :D

Nice igloo! :):)

I tried to build one here but the stability was off because of the 70+ temperatures. We did get snow this year; first time since 2004

The best snow igloo was when some scouts built one during a snow storm with 7 individual igloo tunnels into a commn centrla igloo area.

Happy New Year!

Very cool Brian! Don't forget to make a garage so you can park your Honda in it. :D:D Nothing like chilling-out with a good friend eh? Anyways, looks like a lot of fun if you ask me. ;);)

Cheers,

Phil

I made a fort of my own this evening. I will add some pics in the next few days. 3-4 adults can easily sit inside with no hassles.

The weather played out perfectly. The snow inside the mound was warmer and easy to pack, while the outside was a nice icy shell due to recent rain/moisture and then freezing. It is getting colder again tonight which will freeze things up on the inside overnight. It should be fairly durable unless we get more warm temps (which are not in the forecast).

We used to make our forts with snow blocks which were made with snow packed into the vegetable drawers from the refrigerator. Stack those puppies and mist them down and they could pretty much withstand any attack.
Good times!!!
