Living Room Audio help

I just finished finishing my small living room with really nice built in shelves. I screwed up and didn't run wiring for speakers.

I don't claim to be a Audiophile or to even try for it, but I appreciate music and would like something better than some crappy computer speakers. My music is mostly coming from mp3, and online streaming. I'm really excited about using a chromecast audio with some other powered speaker setup.

I'd like a single powered speaker system or something along those lines. I'm not even sure I'm worried about having stereo sound. Sonos and Bose both seem to have products in line with my need, but they offer more than I need with their proprietary music systems. What else is out there? What do you recommend? I've got a budget of around $350, but would prefer to fall below that. I'm not against buying used on ebay or craigslist.

There are some incredibly good powered speakers available for quite a bit more than that budget, and some "OK" ones within it. Given the quality of your source material, the latter would suffice. Check Monoprice.com for dirt cheap, or Accessories4Less.com for better. Good luck to you.

In you search for desktop and computer speakers you will find many choices, many of them have built in DAC so you can play you music from you PC easily. I like the Audioengine ones as they offer different colors and sound good too.
