Will this product help my display?

I have a Sony CRT SX955 HDTV.

My dishnetwork SD signal looks like crap.

Yeah I know about comp and svideo.

Forget the cabling, is there a product that takes this sd signal, which by the way looked great on my Mits 35 inch SD display, and improves on it?

Thanks all.

We are all in the same boat!

Comcast is the same. SD looks like crap on my HDTV compared to my 19" goldstar.

I may be wrong but I think dish(or comcast or time warner or DTV) needs to send an un-molested SD signal to make it look better. Nothing a few satellite launches can't cure. I bet the 2-3 hours of fresh programming on the 5 HD channels looks great. HD programming seems to be comming by the eye dropper full. 2008 might be better.

Not sure you could use one but an upscaler would work. Some receivers are able to do that.

Would not that just make a 1080i/720p signal out of the super compressed, macroblocked 480i signal.

Just compare a DVD in 480i to a 480i SD signal. I think it's just like digital video or photo editing. If you start with crap you can't really make it less crappy.

DVDs are well recorded, less noise, etc, than broadcast TV signals. Up-converting will not increase the resolution, but it will fool the eye, especially when you have progressive scanning up-conversion.
As you said, if it isn't there, you cannot create it.

I'm sure this will be the same case with 1080i Blu/HD disc. I bet the HD on cable/dish is just as molested as the SD.
