LG LCD TV turns itself on

I have a perplexing problem I'm hoping someone out there can help me with.

I purchased a 42" LG LCD flat panel (model 42LB1DRA) about a month ago. Daily, it would turn itself on at 10:58 PM! It would also lose power (the red standby light would turn off) in the middle of the night. My wife says its around 12:30 AM. The only way I could get the indicator light to turn back on is by unplugging the power cord from the set and then plugging it back in (doing so from the wall would not work).

The store we purchased it from thought it was our cable card (Warner Cable). We got a new one. That did not help. They also suggested unplugging the power for 24 hours to see if that would force a resetting of the TV's memory when we repowered it. It did not.

Yes, we did look to make sure the auto-on timer function was set to "off". Funny, though, the default time was set to 10:58 PM.

We were given a new set and for the first week, it worked fine. Then, we recorded a TV program and we watched a DVD. Since then, you guessed it, the TV once again turns itself on every night at 10:58. Today, for the first time, it also did so around 10:03 AM!

I thought perhaps the DVD was somehow responsible so I disconnected it from the set. That did not help. I thought, too, that maybe there is something in our bedroom emitting an IR signal that might turning the set on. I hung a blanket over the set to block it if such were the case, and the set still turned on.

I'm afraid to say this, but so far, we have not lost power as with the first set.

The store has called LG service, but they had no solution. Anyone out there have any ideas???

Thanks in advance,

Michael

"Built-in HDTV Digital Video Recorder (DVR): Record from cable or antenna to a built-in 160 GB hard disk drive with TV Guide On Screen® interactive program guide."

My guess is that your TV must get itself updated for the TV Guide. Those of us with cable DVRs know that the unit gets updated every day, but contrary to your situation, our HDTVs are not involved in the process.

Therefore, I would think that the only way for your TV Guide to be updated is for your TV to get itself powered ON at, say, 10:58 PM.

Frankly, I would expect this to be covered somewhere in the User Guide !
