I have a Lexicon CP-3, a sound processor/pre amp. It runs a couple of Adcom amplifiers, GFA 555 II and a 5 channel Adcom whose number escapes me right now. The CP-3 is 1992 vintage which means it does not have the newer technology like Dolby Digital Surround or DTS. It does have Dolby Surround. Will there be much reason to hang on to the Lexicon anymore? I currently use it simply as a pre amp for the Adcom 555 II and run two speakers. If the Lexicon is pretty much outdated, would there be a way to continue to use the Adcom amps in a surround sound enviroment? Could I take for example a Marantz, Pioneer AVR etc., and use just the pre amp section and utilize the power of the Adcom's or is it just really unnecessary? Thanks in advance, Rat...

You could think of a pre-amp processor. That way you could keep your Adcom amps. Adcom and several other manufacturers make pre-processors. You would then get DD and DTS. I understand your dilema as I have an old Lexicon processor. This is fine for me as I rarely listen to music in anything but straight stereo. I just leave the processor of most of the time.
